It was a consulate building first of all not an embassy. The question still remains what were IRGC military officers even doing in a consulate building ?? I don't think consulates are meant for military purposes. They are only meant for civilian & administrative use.

When Iran "attacked" they were not alone. Israel was alone in their "attack".That is the real differnce between the two. Israel was not attacking Iran, they were testing who really trulynsupported them. In the long and short run, no other country.
