Putin hated the break up of the Soviet Union. Putin must have been inspired by chinese remark on the regretable dissolution of the USSR because nobody stood up to stop it and his continuous mention of reunification with Taiwan in their meetings also gave Putin the idea of a Ukrainian reunification with Russia due to brotherly ties. The reason why China chooses not to attend the summit is because without Russia's participation, the peace cannot be reached. If a resolution has been made at the summit, but Russia insists the attack, the resolution will be meaningless. So I agree with China's position, and I really hope Russia can stop the attack, make a peace deal with Ukraine, to end this war which kills thousands of people every day.

Russia began hostilities. They got mad at Ukraine when the nation tried to further economic ties with the EU. Ukraine acted as the independent nation it has been since 1991. Russia was the nation that got involved in the situation when it wasn't invited, later invading and annexing Crimea in 2014. Ukraine's actions in past years has been a response to Russian aggression. Russia built up its forces along the border first (also while denying it was for an invasion). They struck and started the war.

Yet Zelensky didn't spent a single cent to help defend his country. During WW2, patriotic Singaporeans, including the wealthy, donated generously to fund the resistance against the Japanese. In ancient China, patriotic people used their wealth to help build armies to defend their land.
