This will provide an alternate route from the strait of malacca. Singapore and USA protested against thailand and so the project is now on hold

Indonesia is also ambitious, so they'll not choose side but still doesn't want China to gain full control over SCS. If conflict cannot be avoided then Indonesia must fight for themselves otherwise they'll become like another East Indies.

Yes and No. Indonesia want to be a 3rd Pillar as they always been since 1961 Non-Aligned movement. Indonesia recognize China's infringement on fellow ASEAN countries border by China, however since Indonesia doesn't have any dispute with China their stance is Neutral but leaning toward ASEAN.

International laws do not apply to the existing cases. The South China Sea was controlled by China from ancient times up to the present time. The Philippines never controlled the South China Sea in ancient times or the present. They stalled some lands from China in the South China Sea.

Chinese have been fishing and swimming in south China Sea for thousands of years. If you look at land profile of South China, all the sea is spread along the profile. Out of that 200 nautical miles belongs to other countries like Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and others, rest belongs to China. Hence it's name is SCS
