Sanctions don't kill Huawei but sanctions will hurt or bankrupt US chip manufacturers.

According to a new report:Intel said on Wednesday its sales would take a hit after the U.S. revoked some of the chipmaker's export licenses for a customer in China, in a move Beijing complained was going too far in the name of national security.

The sanctions force Chinese companies to produce their own chips. So far they doing quite good at that. While the US chip producers rely on government grant to compensate of lost in China sales.Japan/taiwan/south Korea all already defied the sanctions and resume chip sales to China. And recoup sales from the US chip companies. They would be be most benefited from the sanctions.....

If you know this is a long game, then time is definitely on China side. When the restrictions and sanctions were first in place, they predicted that it will take decades for China to even make 14nm chips. Now, not only China is self-sufficient in these legacy chips, China is also making 7nm chips.

As production increases, China will be exporting these legacy chips to the world which again will further erode sells from the west. The loss of the revenue in those legacy chips in the US will never come back.Furthermore, China is the largest chip market in the world.  What good does it do when you have no customers to buy?

It is difficult to buy and use a Huawei phone (no Google apps) here in Australia, the U.S.'s puppy dog and so, when I have to upgrade recently, I switched over from a Samsung to an Oppo - which performs miles superior to the South Korean product. I would have still preferred a Huawei though.

One can't help but notice that the US politicians/administration responsible for these actions, and others like them, are not among the brightest and best in the USA.  That it is not the USA itself that is broken, but rather the political process that leads to such people being appointed and being given so much responsibility.  Many of the brightest people in the world are Americans but they seemingly have little say in what their country does.

The way I see it, the US reaction toward sanctions Huawei is actually what China want that to be.
1) China has a good reasons not to buy chips from US. So don't blame China for trade imbalance.
2) Let US chip maker 'fight' with their politicians. China didn't provoke. It is the situation made it happens.
3) China chip maker will flourish with huge market within China. It is the opportunity given by the US.Hmm...looks like US is falling into the trap...

It is appalling that we want to stop innovation, progress and advancement of science just because we can not keep up with a better , more capable and smarter competitor. This is like a donkey trying to intimidate an Arabian horse to get behind him because he can not keep up with him.

An ancient proven still holds today “Success requires friends, yet great success requires enemy”. Interpretating Western sanction in this kind of way explains why Russia gain momentum to develop their own global financial and trading system, and also regain their manufacturing prowess. This same is true for China in terms of semiconductor chips, Huawei smart phone Mate 60 pro announced at the same date when US secretary of DOC, Gina Ramando, paid her China to visit is just another vivid example of the sanction boomerang.

In the 1980's US sanctions against the USSR led to failure of American farms. You may recall Farm Aid. Later, Russia developed their agricultural output to become the largest global grain producer. Same with oil and gas.

There's still a huge difference between USSR and China. The USSR had a non functional communist economy while China has an incredibly successful capitalist economy. The strategy of suffocating the USSR economy worked eventually, it won't work against China.

The United States of sanctions will not be able to stop the economic growth of China as they’re working tirelessly towards achieving their goals. If they have focused on their own internal affairs instead of obsessing over causing chaos in other parts of the world.

what the US won't admit is that, aside from its own tech industry's inability to catch-up/compete with Huawei's innovations and progress, the US is leery of the american workforce finding out about Huawei's business model of sharing ownership/profit of the company with its employees and pushing for the same in this society of oligarchs [where profits are reap mainly by the 1%].
