Regulate it too tightly and things will start spring up illegally and other countries will easily take the lead. This can be seen in every sector in India where Govt made too much interference with strict regulations. If all countries have such regulations then it would work. If it is only India, then those Who stand to profit out of it will simply ignore and leave India. EV, game development, advanced manufacturing are all examples where Our Govt intervened with too much regulations and We are lagging behind most other comparative nations by a lot.

This is much needed. What’s wrong with complying and getting govt permission for releasing a beta version of sorts and then scaling it to a full version later if the models turn out to be accurate enough. The govt is asking companies to seek permission to regulate the spread of misinformation, nothing wrong with that.

when its a technology that is never tried before, it is better to start with no regulations to experiment new possibilities, what good is it to build hurdles when the technology itself is at its infancy. This will just discourage many firms with financial backing to experiment with the technology because if the AI makes a mistake, with the regulations the firm will risk it all on legal battles. This will reduce the risk takers and in return block the possibilities of innovation, again leading India back in the race of an emerging technology.
